Bonaforth gained importance through the production of bricks and bricks.

Bonaforth was first mentioned in a document in 1318 as "Bollenvorde" in the feudal book of the Duke of Brunswick. The name of the village goes back to the ford that led through the Fulda here. Early names of the village were Bollenford (1451), Bonforte (1498), Boneforde (1585), Bonenfurt (around 1715). The present name Bonaforth developed from these (1785). The rich clay and loam deposits in Bonaforth were mined for the production of bricks and bricks - especially for the houses in Münden. A settlement of brickworks developed.
