As part of the "Soziale Stadt Altstadt III" project, the Bürgertreff was created as a place for intercultural encounters in the neighbourhood, Ziegelstr. 56.
As is usual with projects, the subsidised neighbourhood management for the Bürgertreff Hann. Münden expired in 2009. The volunteers at the Bürgertreff therefore founded a non-profit association so that the intercultural work in the old town could continue.
The work and the offers in the Bürgertreff
Three floors (ground floor handicapped accessible) are "played on" by the Bürgertreff and its volunteers and visitors. Our motto is "With each other - for each other". We co-operate with the House of Nations, the KVHS, Caritas, AWO, Rock for Tolerance and other Münden initiatives and associations.
The work is done by volunteers, be it cleaning, initiating and accompanying groups, supervising pupils (grades 1-10) with their homework, helping refugees to learn the German language, maintaining the intercultural garden and ...and...and.
This is all done in the Bürgertreff:
- Homework supervision for primary and secondary school including lunch
- . Lunch
- Holiday activities for children
- Individual language lessons for people with other languages and help with problems
- Klöncafé on Monday afternoons
- Handwork friends Mondays
- Stamp friends on Tuesdays
- Sewing café on Wednesdays
- Doppelkopfrunden on Wednesdays
- Chess on Thursdays
- Women's breakfast on Fridays
- Repariertreff every 1. Friday of the month from 3.00-6.00 pm
- Intercultural garden on the Tanzwerder
Projects in the Bürgertreff
As the Bürgertreff does not receive any ongoing funding for running costs, it is difficult to keep life in the Bürgertreff going. In recent years, we have been able to "land" larger projects for our children and women - and successfully implement them.
In the "Interfeminas" project, a wonderful photo exhibition and a great women's calendar were created during the Corona period after numerous photo shoots.
This was followed by the three-year project "Interkulturell@ - digital durchstarten im Quartier" from 2020-2023, funded by the BAMF, Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. In this large women's and girls' project, our project manager organised many activities as well as the annual Altstadt newspaper with many interesting articles. Films were also made by the girls in the neighbourhood under the professional guidance of Esther Niederhammer: A film about International Women's Day. The jointly planned film "Mädchen(t)räume" was then shown in the cinema to a full auditorium.
In the new joint project - this time also for boys - we started an "inter-ecological series" on the subject of the environment, which is sponsored by Postcode for one year each. A birthday calendar and an animal calendar were created from photo campaigns. "Environmental stories" were written and published as a book. Another publication is "Crush on Nature" with wonderful photos and texts. In the third year, the focus will be on redesigning the playground at the Natermannturm.
Awards for volunteering 60+
In 2020, the citizens' meeting place was awarded 2nd prize in the "Volunteering 60+" competition by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs. The award ceremony was cancelled several times due to the coronavirus restrictions. After all, the award ceremony was to take place at the German Seniors' Day in Hanover in 2022. Antje Scholz had made a film about volunteering 60+ in Hann. Münden especially for this purpose with the girls from the citizens' meeting place, which was to be shown at the nationwide Senior Citizens' Day. This event was also cancelled - due to coronavirus. The volunteer film is a wonderful film about Hann. Münden and its many volunteers and can be viewed in two versions on our website.
