The Leine-Heide cycle path connects the varied low mountain range landscape of the Leinebergland with the Lüneburg Heath and the Hanseatic city of Hamburg over 400 km.
The route takes you from the sources of the Leine in Eichsfeld, Thuringia, through the slightly hilly river landscape past attractive historic towns. Whether Göttingen with its student flair, the old half-timbered town of Northeim or Einbeck, famous for its brewing tradition, there are interesting things to experience and see along the way.
Further north is the scenic and wooded region of Hildesheim. From here you always have wonderful views of the Leine valley. After a short detour of 12 km, you can reach Hildesheim with its two UNESCO World Heritage churches. The specialist towns of Alfeld and Gronau, which are beautifully situated between the seven mountains, are also on the way.
From Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, where the Maschsee lake, the Herrenhausen Gardens and Hanover Adventure Zoo invite you to linger, you follow the Leine into the Steinhuder Meer region and on through the river landscape of the Aller-Leine valley, characterized by meadows, forests and moors.
The final stages take you through the Luneburg Heath, past Walsrode with its famous World Bird Park, the Heide-Park in Soltau and typical heath villages such as Schneverdingen and Wilsede. After crossing the impressive heathland landscapes, the Hanseatic city of Hamburg awaits you at the end point with its metropolitan flair and numerous sights.
