With the Expo contribution 2000 "Water Traces", water was brought to the centre in artistic form
With the acclaimed EXPO contribution “Wasserspuren” (Water Traces), the theme of water took center stage in Hann. Münden’s downtown area in a unique way beginning in 2000. In collaboration with residents, students, planners, artists, and city officials, three central downtown squares were redeveloped over the course of two years, incorporating artistic, design, and hydraulic engineering considerations.
To this day, numerous elements of “Wasserspuren” can be experienced throughout the cityscape. These include interactive water features and sound art, individually designed paving stones, bronze sound drains, artistic humidity gauges, and water and mist stelae.
At the “Fächerbrunnen” fountain, water jets can be precisely controlled. This is a particularly popular feature of the installation among children. Other components include bronze and ceramic stones embedded in the paving. The “Wasserspuren” project culminates with the bass plate at Doktor-Johann-Andreas-Eisenbart-Platz.
The “Water Trails” offer diverse perspectives on urban design, art, and Hann. Münden’s unique location between the Werra, Fulda, and Weser rivers. The names of the participating artists are embedded in bronze blocks set into the pavement near their respective works of art.
Water Educational Trail
The “Water Traces” are also part of the Hann. Münden Water Trail. Along the trail, historic structures and facilities illustrate the importance of water for the city’s development. These include, among others, the Schlagden, weirs, and locks.
The Water Trail invites visitors to discover Hann. Münden and its history from the perspective of water. You can start your journey, for example, at Doktorwerder or at various other stops along the Water Trail.
