St. Aegidien Church with tombstone of Doctor Eisenbart

Short facts

  • Hann. Münden

The resting place of Doctor Eisenbart.

The main part of St. Aegidien Church was destroyed in 1626 by the explosion of a powder keg in a neighbouring building. Reconstruction, however, was not completed until 1733. Doctor Eisenbart was buried in a crypt in the chancel in the middle of the altar in 1727. His baroque gravestone - with an incorrect year of birth - was placed on the north side of the church in 1837.

St. Aegidien Chruch was deconsecrated in 2006 due to financial problems and the ever-shrinking parish. In 2008, Bernd Demandt, owner of the hotel opposite, was able to purchase the church from the city and rebuild it.
