Wiershausen (pop. 688 - as of 31.12.2019) is situated in a valley basin open towards the Werra.
The village is presumably older than the first documentary mention of 990 attests. Tumuli from Celtic times are evidence of this. The weaver's shuttle in the municipality's coat of arms is a reminder of the time when linen weaving was important as a livelihood in Wiershausen.
