The medieval model village of Steinrode is open to drop-in visitors one Sunday a month from March through October. All other visits are possible by prior reservation. Current information on dates and offerings can be found on the Steinrode Model Village website.
The buildings—the church, kitchen, blacksmith’s shop, woodworking shop, servants’ quarters, and the large bailiff’s house—are arranged around the village square. From the watchtower, you can take in a panoramic view of the entire village. Here, children and teenagers can gain insights into everyday life in times past in a vivid and playful way.
The model village does not see itself as a museum, but rather as an extracurricular learning center. Here, students can experience history firsthand and explore topics such as natural cycles, the availability of raw materials, and the use of renewable resources. In the process, they learn, among other things, how different raw materials were used and processed, and what role natural resources played in everyday life.
Thanks to its location in the middle of the forest, Steinrode also offers a wide range of opportunities to directly experience and learn about nature.
