Autumnal Quantz concert in Scheden

In 6 days

Short facts

Chamber music of the sensitive style": under this motto, the Johann-Joachim-Quantz-Gesellschaft invites you to an approximately one-hour concert on Sunday, 22 September at 5 p.m. in St. Mark's Church in Scheden, performed by flautist Anna Reichhold and harpsichordist Agnieszka Skorupa.

Music arouses emotions. And it is able to give emotions their specific expression. Pouring feelings into music is one of the main concerns of Baroque chamber music, to which composers such as Johann Joachim Quantz, who was born in Scheden and became world-famous as Frederick the Great's flute teacher, dedicated themselves. Works from his pen as well as those of his contemporaries are therefore of lasting relevance and are worth rediscovering. Great sensitivity is required in the musical performance in order to do justice to the sensitivity. With sonatas, fugues and suites by Johann Joachim Quantz, Johann Philipp Kirnberger, Georg Friedrich Händel and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, the two artists will attempt to make this audible and thus encourage listeners to immerse themselves in the special style of chamber music of that era.

Before the concert, which is sponsored by the Hermann Hildebrandt Foundation Scheden, the VR Bank in Südniedersachsen and the district of Göttingen, the Quantz exhibition can be viewed free of charge in the church from 3.00 pm. It presents the life and work of the musician, who was born here in 1697. Texts, pictures, maps, documents, musical examples, sheet music, books and a replica of Quantz's original transverse flute provide an entertaining and informative insight into his journey from the son of a blacksmith to an influential artist.
