From Blexen, take the ferry across the Weser River straight into the port city of Bremerhaven. From the landing stage, the route follows the Geestemündung, a historic district where shipyards once lined up side by side. The renovated Wencke Dock is still a testament to this era and is also the oldest preserved dry dock in Germany. The route continues past the Historical Museum and the Art Nouveau-style city theater. The Weser beach bath right in front of the dike is a good spot for a short break. Along the dike promenade, continue toward Havenwelten Bremerhaven. Here, the German Maritime Museum tells stories of the world’s seas and ocean giants. In the museum harbor lies the restaurant ship "Seute Deern" and the technical museum submarine "Wilhelm Bauer." Just a stone’s throw away is the Climate House Bremerhaven 8° East. This interactive museum takes visitors on a journey along the eighth longitudinal degree, once around the globe. Right next door stands the Emigration Center, awarded "European Museum of the Year" in 2007. Next to the neo-Gothic Simon Loschen Lighthouse, the view falls on the Zoo by the Sea, where polar bears and penguins can be observed through underwater windows. If you want to end your day in Bremerhaven, you should take a detour to the Fischereihafen showcase to stroll among restaurants, smokehouses, and maritime shops. The route continues toward Cuxhaven along the Weser estuary to the North Sea resort of Wremen. Here, the small cutter harbor with the lighthouse "Kleiner Preuße" forms the perfect backdrop for a short rest. With new energy, continue on to Dorum-Neufeld. A detour in front of the dike is worthwhile, as here you’ll find the National Park House of the Wurster North Sea Coast, the modern wave outdoor pool "Watt'n Bad," the cutter harbor, and the impressive Obereversand Lighthouse. The Weser Cycle Route continues parallel to the coastline and past the famous shrimp peeling machine by Alwin Kocken in Spieka-Neufeld. Perfect for a small break along the way are the popular Melkhüs. In the small green huts with red roofs, fresh milk and quark dishes are offered daily. Right on the Weser Cycle Route is the Melkhus in Cuxhaven-Arensch. The route continues through the Werner Forest, the only coastal forest of the Lower Saxony North Sea. Between the Cuxhaven spa districts of Sahlenburg and Duhnen, the route leads along stunning dike foreground landscapes with impressive views of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea. In the city on the world shipping route, emigrants set off for the "New World" in the last century. Since then, the city’s landmark, the Kugelbake, has also been known as the "last corner before America." A visit is recommended to the new adventure museum "Windstärke10," with topics about deep-sea fishing and shipwrecks.
