Along the Weser, the route leads through the Reinhardswald to the Sababurg with its primaeval forest
Probably the oldest and, at over 130 hectares, the largest zoo in Europe was established in 1571. More than 650 animals from 80 different species find a home under 300-year-old oaks.
Sababurg Castle
The once magnificent hunting lodge of the Landgraves of Hesse became the Grimm's fairytale castle in the vernacular and later the place of origin of the Fairytale Route. You can hardly encounter the world of the Brothers Grimm more directly than at Sleeping Beauty.
Castle Sababurg
Despite the renovation work, the Sababurg remains accessible as a popular excursion destination - including summer gastronomy. Visitors will be catered for by a food truck set up on the castle grounds. The castle grounds and the food truck are open to visitors on weekends and public holidays during the summer months.
