The history of LouWi is closely linked to that of the renowned distiller Friedrich Diesenberg, who brought the art of spirits production to the town. The company was first mentioned in documents in 1867 as the Diesenberg Liqueur Factory. It was the visionary daughter Marie who breathed life into the store's current name through her connection with the skipper Louis Winkelmann.
Step inside and experience the authentic charm of a wine bar that was already famous in your grandfather's day for its exquisite fruit wines. Spirits, fruit wines, etc. have always been sold and an iconic wine bar has been set up directly behind the store where customers can sample drinks. Be inspired by the unique murals of the Münden originals from 1950 while you let the aromas of our specialties take effect on you.
The wine tradition is deeply rooted in Hann. Münden: since the Middle Ages, wine has enriched the town through the transportation of goods on the rivers Fulda, Werra and Weser. We proudly carry on the heritage of urban winegrowing, which began as early as the 15th century. Stories of vineyards such as the Questenberg, whose wines were described as remarkably good as early as 1390, are proof of the region's long-standing wine tradition.
In the midst of this history and culture, we cordially invite you to enjoy not only a glass of wine at LouWi, but also a piece of history. This is exactly what the Obstweinschänke Louis Winkelmann is, your cozy place in Hann. Münden, where tradition meets taste.
