Guided Tour of the Fährenpfortenturm (Hagelturm) – City History and Panoramic Views
Discover one of Hann. Münden’s most remarkable historic structures and experience the city’s history from a new perspective. The Fährenpfortenturm, also known as the Hagelturm, was once part of the medieval city fortifications and today bears witness to the industrial past of the “City of Three Rivers.”
In 1848, the owner of the firm Haendler & Natermann acquired the historic tower to use it for the production of lead shot. In the so-called “tower casting” process, molten lead was poured through a sieve. The resulting lead droplets fell like hailstones and solidified into small pellets. The tower owes its current name, Hagelturm, to this unique manufacturing process. Lead shot was produced here until the 1980s.
On a guided tour of the Hagelturm in Hann. Münden, you’ll learn interesting facts about the history of the medieval defensive tower, its industrial use, and the town’s development.
A special highlight awaits you after climbing the stairs: From the observation deck, you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the historic half-timbered old town of Hann. Münden and the surrounding countryside.
The Hagelturm guided tour combines city history, industrial culture, and an extraordinary viewing experience—ideal for anyone who wants to discover Hann. Münden from a different perspective.
