Our house is one of the few half-timbered houses in the city that was built using the so-called "post and beam" construction method. Post-and-beam construction means that the beams run continuously over several storeys. Horse-drawn carts used to pass through the large archway, which has now been restored to its original state. Before the conversion into the "Windmühle" restaurant, there was probably a stable on the ground floor. During this time, the archway was partially built over. The flats on the upper floors were built later.
After one and a half years of construction, Münden's oldest completely preserved half-timbered building now presents itself in new splendour in 2010:
The former restaurant "Zur Windmühle" has become the hotel garni "Alte Windmühle". The newly designed building combines historical elements with modern elements made of aluminium and glass. Ten single and multi-bed rooms with a total of 19 beds are available for guests.
