Short facts

Reading for the Day of Repentance and Prayer

Following the positive response to the first reading—and by popular demand—the members of the City Guides Guild will repeat the reading “War and Peace—Münden During the Thirty Years’ War” as part of the “400 Years of Bloody Pentecost” commemorative year.

The reading explores Münden’s turbulent history during the Thirty Years’ War. Beginning with the upheavals caused by the Reformation, it highlights the religious and political tensions that culminated in one of Europe’s most devastating wars.

The reading focuses on the fates of the people of Münden—their hopes, fears, and suffering during a time of siege, violence, and destruction.

In the commemorative year “400 Years of ‘Bloody Pentecost’ 1626,” the dramatic events that left a lasting mark on the town are remembered. At the same time, a connection is drawn to the message of the Day of Repentance and Prayer: peace and reconciliation, and a call for repentance and renewal.
