Nest box building for children

In 21 days

Short facts

If our landscape lacks natural nesting cavities in old trees or breeding niches in buildings, we can help the local birdlife with family planning by installing nesting boxes. Robins, black redstarts, white wagtails and wrens, for example, love light when breeding and are happy to have a half-hole, while for tits and nuthatches, the size of the entrance hole determines who moves in.

Ingo Viola, an employee at Münden Nature Park, offers children and accompanying adults the opportunity to build nest boxes and breeding cavities under expert guidance. Because not all nesting boxes are the same and the right size and design is very important for different bird species.
