Musical evenings in Hann. Münden's newest in-location
"Off to the OX!" or "Off to the Ochsenkopf!" - these are the calls you hear more often in Hann. Münden since last autumn. This refers to the "OX Location" in a historic half-timbered house known in Hann. Münden as the "Ochsenkopf". The "Ochs" was shortened to "OX" when the bar and event location was named.
Modern location, centuries of history
The historic house dates back to 1528, but unfortunately, there is no longer any evidence of where the name came from. In earlier times, there was probably a large ox head on the façade of the house, indicating a butcher's shop or inn inside. Over the centuries, the house was operated as a warehouse, tannery, leather and plank trade and as a soap factory. In the late 1970s, it was gutted and renovated at the great financial expense. In 2016 and 2017, it was modernised again about fire protection technology.
Musical interior
Christian Möller has been using the imposing building with the ff-Musikschule e.V. association since 2008. In 2015, the Ochsenkopf became a cultural café for six weeks - and very successfully! This made the house accessible even to non-musical locals and tourists. They often cast curious glances through the window front into the large interior. With its three playable levels plus vaulted cellar and open attic, the Ochsenkopf is already so worth seeing as a building itself. So it would be a real shame to open it up only in a limited way.
In 2018, the Ochsenkopf attracted attention with some unconventional events! For example, with a "noodle concert". A music student's comment on a piano notation by Sylvano Bussotti ("Looks like noodles!") gave Christian Möller the idea. The concert grand was prepared with noodles that moved in rhythm when played. This made the music particularly vivid. Afterwards, noodle soup was served - in keeping with the occasion. He has also held a poetry competition at the OX.
With a love of detail
Since last autumn, Möller has been increasingly focusing on the event concept - with success. On Thursdays and Saturdays, the Ochsenkopf is now open from 7 p.m. and invites guests to cosy and musical evenings with friends. A special highlight is the detailed and high-quality interior design. Guests can take a seat on sofa pianos with real piano keys or benches reminiscent of rowing boats. If you take a closer look, you will discover even more lovingly crafted details that make the connection to music even clearer. It's worth taking a second look at the bar counter, for example - it was created from an old piano.
Selected background music enriches the living room atmosphere. Young musicians will have the opportunity to present their skills to the audience and try them out from 9 pm onwards. Christian Möller, who is also involved in integration work in cooperation with the Jugendhilfe Südnierdersachsen JSN, the district of Göttingen and the Police Academy of Lower Saxony, will be supported by a young, intercultural team in running the bar.
Colourful programme of events
From April 2020, the OX Location will expand its programme weekly. On the first Thursday and Saturday of each month, there will be colourful karaoke sessions between 7 and 8:30 pm. Songs can be submitted in advance by email. In the following week, Christian Möller himself performs catchy tunes, classical music and pop on the concert grand piano on Thursdays and Saturdays between 7 and 8 pm. Questions about the music, background and instrument are expressly welcome. On the third Thursday and Saturday, the OX location will become a temporary cinema. You can find the cinema programme on the website four weeks in advance. On the fourth Thursday and Saturday of the month, the OX Location will be used as a "Speakers Corner" to discuss a wide variety of topics without blinkers. A seat reservation is recommended, especially on Saturdays.
Music, please!
In the afternoons, the OX location is still used as a music school. Christian Möller gives music lessons, composition coaching and performance training. He also offers guitar, drums and singing. He is supported by colleagues from Göttingen and Kassel. When asked about his motivation, he answers: "My drive? To get out of the ivory tower, to share music and culture with others."
A great approach in a extraordinary location that you shouldn't miss when visiting Hann. Münden!
