Pumpkin diversity - practical and culinary

In 85 days

Short facts

Fall is pumpkin time. We visit the Mühlhausen family's pumpkin patch (Lippoldshausen pumpkin barn) and learn about the many different characteristics of this berry fruit. Over 30 varieties grow in the field. There are over 800 varieties worldwide, but with butternut and hokkaido, only a fraction of the variety can usually be found in the supermarket. Weather permitting, we will help with the harvest (please bring small hand pruning shears). Afterwards, Katja Weitemeyer from Landgasthaus Zur Brücke, which is within walking distance, will prepare a delicious selection of pumpkins - from soup to savory and sweet dishes - and show us the many ways in which this vitamin-rich fruit can be used in the kitchen. Afterwards, everyone can take a pumpkin home with them!
