The focus of the program is the Organ Concerto No. 2 in G minor by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger (1839-1901). Rheinberger is one of the most important composers of Romantic church music. His second organ concerto combines the sonorous richness of an orchestra with the expressive power of the organ and impresses with its melodic beauty, solemn character and virtuoso passages. The work is one of the most important compositions for this instrumentation and shows the organ not only as an accompanying instrument, but as an equal soloist.
Performers:
- Detlef Renneberg (organ)
- Herne Chamber Orchestra
- Wolfgang Flunkert (conductor)
- In cooperation with the Förderverein Kirchenmusik in der evangelisch-lutherischen Stadtkirchengemeinde e.V.
